About Watch DOGS

WATCH DOGS® (Dads Of Great Students) is the safe school initiative of the National Center for Fathering that involves fathers and father figures to help create a more safe and secure learning enviornment in our nation's schools. WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day each year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school prinicpal or other administrator. The Watch DOGS at Kettering:
  • Provide daily "Valet" service to ease the student drop off process and keep traffic moving safely every morning;
  • Organize a "School Beautification Day" - typically a cleanup or planting day that happens in the fall or spring;
  • Participate in Career Day and Read Across America;
  • Run a Chess Club - an after school, on-campus program that teaches your kids how to play chess;
  • Provide Mentoring - regular on-campus one-on-one meetings between an assigned Watch DOG and a student, and;
  • Assist the PTA's fundraising activities by providing volunteer support and donations for the Jog-a-Thon, Country Fair and Trunk-2-Trunk.
We typically meet twice a year off campus to discuss our participation and organization during the school year. If you'd like to participate and keep up-to-date on meeting schedules and happenings, simply register your email on this page.
