family's carbon footprint, and support your school? This is something that does
it all!
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program
with Tanaka Farms! Kettering Elementary has participated in the Community Supported Agriculture program with Tanaka Farms for the past 2 years. This is a program designed to bring organic and fresh vegetables and fruit right to our school. It supports local growers, makes eating healthy convenient for busy families, and raises money for our school. You could say it is a win-win-win!! Summary of Fall 2009 Tanaka Farms
Fundraiser
Thanks to all the Kettering family and friends who participated in the
Fall, 2009 Tanaka Farms Fundraiser!
In a nutshell, Kettering had:
- more than 40 families participate over the 12 week period - Session 1
and 2
- a total of 165 boxes of produce and fruit (112 organic produce, 53 fruit boxes) delivered to Kettering - raised $825 so far for our school! So, what's
next?
Get ready - sign-ups for Spring 2010 will start at the end of January.
Deliveries start Tuesday, February 9th
at Kettering and will continue every Tuesday for 8 weeks (up to Spring
Break)
Cost: $30 per box of organic produce OR $30 per box
of fresh fruit
(note: cost increased from $25 to $30 as of Jan 2010 because fewer boxes
per school ordered and higher transportation costs)
How do you sign
up?
Come to Parent Info night on 1/28 to
look at each box and subscribe, or fill-out a Tanaka Farm flyer you should get
on the last Wednesday of January.
Note you can sign up for any week or multiple weeks at any time. An e-mail will be sent
to confirm receipt of payment and remind you to pick-up your box that
week.

d. 3-weeks for $85 (save $5)
3. If you feel the amount of produce or fruit in one box is too much to
consume before it goes bad, feel free to sign up with a buddy.
More
Incentives:
And if that is not enough to encourage you to subscribe, here are two more
reasons:
- It is almost strawberry season!!! Subscribers can look forward to
receiving baskets of fresh strawberries in their boxes in February.
- There will be a CSA Appreciation Day at the farm in the beginning of
March. This is a wonderful day at Tanaka Farms including wagon-rides, lunch,
and a chance for the kids to see where all those yummy veggies and strawberries
are grown. It is free for subscribers. My kids had a lot of fun at the fall and
winter CSA days!
