Kettering has plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the year, (and some during the summer). We’ve listed a few ideas below for you to consider, depending on your availability.

 A volunteer is:
  • A parent (you are required 10 hours per year)
  • A grandparent
  • A nearby resident interested developing their community school
  • A high school student (we sign-off on service hours)

Some suggested volunteer ideas are:

Front Office

There’s always work to be done in the office. From answering phones to light clerical work, every bit of help is appreciated. Call Grace at 562-598-9486 to learn more.

Technology Lab

If you’ve got a knack for computers and software, we’ve got a place for you. Kettering Kids engage in valuable lab time but we need adult facilitators to help.

Be a Room Parent

Being a Room Parent is an ideal way to be involved with your child’s classroom and put in volunteer hours at the same time. For more information on being a room parent, see: Being a Room Parent is a year long commitment, although it can be shared with other parents. Room parents typically spend an hour a week, depending on calendar activities.

Join Watch D.O.G.S.

D.O.G.S. are Dads Of Great Students. If you’re a dad, grand-dad or male guardian, and you want to be involved in your child’s school, hands-down, this is the easiest way to get involved. You’ll be in the company of other guys that like to build things, grill things and make kids laugh. For more information on being a Watch DOG, visit the Watch D.O.G.S. page. The Watch DOGS have events that take 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the event calendar.

Be a program or event volunteer

All of our programs and events, organized by our Committee Members need additional volunteer support. If you can’t commit to being a Committee Member, you might be interested in working one shift at the Book Fair, or a game booth at the carnival. Each committee has several events to choose from. For an overview of programs and events, see:

Be a PTA Committee Member

Kettering has 27 committees to choose from – everything from our Author’s Festival to School Beautification. For a complete list of Kettering PTA committees, see  Some committees require more time and planning than others. We encourage you to contact existing committee members and ask them about their time commitments.

Be a PTA Board Member

Board members are nominated every spring and voted on for the following school year. Board Member positions require a year commitment.  For a complete list of Kettering PTA Board Positions, see members typically put in 10 to 20 hours per week, and are generally involved in helping 1 or 2 committees execute on events.

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS)

The VIPS program offers interested adults the opportunity to volunteer in our schools, whether they be in their own family's classroom or those of friends and neighbors. The process is simple and the rewards are great. Click here for the Official VIPS web page including Application procedures and Application forms, in English and Spanish.
